pellegrini looking like our best manager for years
|
i like pellegrini, calm, in control, attracts players who may not otherwise have signed for us, and think he has handled the arnie saga very well, at last i feel we are progressing as a club, the club owners to their credit are letting him do the job he is paid for, 7th on the cards this year which should get europe, and theres still the cup, i think we should give mr pellegrini a longer contract, and the board should continue to back him.

He says he wants to manage for another 10 years, so I reckon a loud rendition of “10 more years, 10 more years, Pellegrini. He plays football the West Ham Way!” is in order.

Far too soon to judge. Remember Bilic at the same stage in his tenure.
Wait and see before judging.

Like the manager but absolutely fucked it tonight with the wrong shape and players in the first half. Poor decisions on his part so although the players in the side should have done better

Judge him better after the summer, huge amount of work to be done before next season. He's got some appalling shit to clear out thats for sure.

He fucked up today but John Lyall and Ron Greenwood fucked up many times but were given a long time to make amends.
Regardless the team he picked was still strong enough to easily get through today.
The only small consolation to come out of this is that he realises that Carroll & Obiang should never start a game again and they along with Masuaku, Adrian, Hernandez & Ogbonna fuck off during the summer.

He underestimated the oppo today. Nevertheless, nobody could have expected us to be so fucking inept. The first half was as bad a performance as I can remember.

Err, wasn't he supposed to be analysing our squad for 7 months before he came in?
Anyways. even if he didn't surely by now he knows he needs someone else as captain on the pitch apart from noble. The blokes barely up to it as a top flight footballer let alone an onfield leader.

I was in two minds as to whether the blame should be aimed mainly at the players or the manager.
But then I saw this thread.
davese16 Are you new to West Ham? We go into a 'banana skin' game, and you JINX IT, you dopey cunt!

Very odd post this. Not quite sure what reaction it was aiming for. Suspicious.

Sorry for being an old git but both Lyall and Greenwood were allowed time to build teams even after they failed which is not allowed these days. My early days: Lyall won the F.A.Cup, ECWC finalists, relegated us, brought us up, won the F.A.Cup, League Cup finalists, third in the not Sky First Division but he also relegated us in 1989. I’d like to se us trying to compete but the manager realising our current limitations. You old boys remember going to AWAY games and expecting to win in 85/86?

That 85/86 season was the exception. Shame that the club never built on it. Teams worked out the tactics of the ball over the top and Alvin looked out of sorts after being at the WC and not having a rest the next season and Lyall suffered for keeping faith and being loyal to a number of the team.
But that was a different era when it was about the team and not the squad.
But Pellegrini seems on the face of it to deserve more time to build and improve us.

I meant that I’ve enjoyed Pellegrini’s positive approach but, at some points, you adapt to your strengths or weaknesses. I believe that, with the players we have, we can play a counterattacking style, similar to the current Manchester United approach. We seem to be sporadically good in in defence and sporadically good in attack at the moment.
